Tierrasanta Homes for Sale
In Spanish, this San Diego community means “holy land” and is also sometimes called “The Island in the Hills”. Tierrasanta was initially part of the Mission San Diego de Alcala ranch, but in the 1700s and 1800s the United States Marine Corps adopted the area. In 1971 development began to make Tierrasanta fit for residential use. This bustling upscale community was among the first master-planned neighborhoods in San Diego. It consists of family homes, condos, apartments, shopping centers, and parks. Tierrasanta is one of San Diego’s top-ranked communities with its tree-lined streets and charming small-town feel.
In addition to its ranking and popularity, Tierrasanta is also known for its top-notch and award-winning educational system. Junipero Serra High School in Tierrasanta is one of the best ranked on the Academic Performance Index at the California Education Department. The Jean Farb and Gaspar de Portola Middle Schools are just as successful. Residents of Tierrasanta can also enjoy a selection of 8 different elementary schools.
On the eastern side of Tierrasanta lies Mission Trails Regional Park, which hosts fantastic hiking trails, campgrounds, grass fields, and other enjoyable recreational opportunities. To the north lies the United States Marine Corps Base at Miramar and across I-15 to the west is the general aviation airfield, Montgomery Field. South of the neighborhood is Admiral Baker Golf Course.
Some of Tierrasanta’s popular recreational locations are Villa Montserate Park, Villa Norte Park, and Tierrasanta Community Park. Another popular spot for recreational and community events is the Tierrasanta Recreation Center. This center has large meetings rooms, an array of tennis courts, a hefty-sized swimming pool, a gymnasium, and lighted fields. In addition, Tierrasanta’s canyons hold several pleasant walking trails. Two small malls and the Tierrasanta Town Center serve the community’s shopping needs.
