La Mesa Homes for Sale
Housing more than 54,000 San Diegans is the neighborhood of La Mesa, meaning “the plateau”. La Mesa bears this name due to its high geographic location in the eastern part of the county. Over the years, La Mesa has become known as the “Jewel of the Hills” and has become a popular place to live in San Diego.
La Mesa has become so popular because of its desirable climate, beautifully landscaped streets and neighborhoods, charming downtown village, and convenient retail and commercial opportunities. Just east of La Mesa is Grossmont Center, which is the favorite shopping destination, accessed via I-8. More limited, but definitely more conveniently located is La Mesa Crossroads, which for some residents provides sufficient shopping. Residents of La Mesa enjoy the nearby Lake Murray and Lake Murray Park, which offer a fun and relaxing spot to hang out on a warm day.
The most popular La Mesa event is Oktoberfest, which occurs annually. This event includes beer contests, German culture celebrations, delicious food, family events and entertainment, and an opportunity for La Mesa residents to come together as a community every year. During the summer, La Mesa also holds Movie Night Under the Starlight, Kids Care Fest and The La Mesa Flag Day Parade.
The La Mesa-Spring Valley School District and Grossmont Union High School District serve the area and provide excellent education opportunities for students. Among the 9 elementary schools are Rolando, La Mesa Dale, Maryland Avenue, Murdock, Northmont, and Vista La Mesa. Students in grades 6-8 can go to either Parkway Middle or La Mesa Middle School. High school students go to either Grossmont High School or Helix High School. Like most of San Diego, students, no matter where they go, will receive quality and exceptional educational experiences.
